A New Stage

The graduation ceremony is one of the key moments in the life of a student. Commissioned by EPFL for the 2017 edition, this artwork reveals the relationships between the 994 alumni, at the center, to the classes they took during their studies, at the border of the image. One the key strength of this university is its ability to propose a large panel courses while letting the student choose what is the best for his/her future career. Automatically extracted from the structure of the network, communities of alumni are naturally clustered according to the Masters they chose. These groups are here colored using EPFL’s palette, with a distinct shade for electrical engineering, architecture or biology for example.
