Network Art



This artwork was created for Karius, an innovative life sciences company using genomics and machine learning to combat infectious diseases. Their test can quickly and non-invasively detect over 1000 pathogens causing both deep-seated and bloodstream infections from a single blood sample.

The artwork visualizes the connections between patients based on their microbial makeup, with some signatures reflecting underlying infectious diseases and others potentially relevant to other therapeutic areas. The color palette is divided into four unique shades, with lighter tones for children and darker ones for adults. Patients who are immunocompromised are differentiated by nodes outside the square shape.

Personally, I view this piece as a testament to the power of science and technology to save lives. The similarities across age groups, disease states, and microbial signatures offer new opportunities in medicine, contributing to human health and disease research.
